Tbilisi Office - South Caucasus Region

Büro Tbilisi - Region Südkaukasus

Our Tbilisi office is involved in establishing a democratic political culture in Georgia, Armenia, and Azerbaijan. It supports initiatives that promote the political and social participation of women and sexual minorities and regularly hosts public discussion meetings on major reform issues in Georgia.

It offers sur-place scholarships for young scientists from all parts of the region to help them pursue research into historical, sociological, and urbanistic issues, and develops transborder educational and media projects with them.

In addition, the office promotes civil society dialogue towards a peaceful solution of the conflicts in Nagorno-Karabakh, Abchasia, and South Ossetia. In a concerted effort with the Istanbul office it hosts, in Tbilisi, an informal series of meetings to further Turkish-Armenian dialogue. One of the special objectives of the office is to develop policy recommendations for an active and coherent EU approach towards the Southern Caucasus region. For this purpose it co-hosts a regular series of workshops and expert panels – in Berlin, Brussels, and within the region – that focus on the role of a common European foreign and security policy in resolving regional conflicts and that aim to include the region in the EU’s concept of Wider Europe.
