A Societal Transformation Scenario for Staying Below 1.5°C
A study by Kai Kuhnhenn, Luis Costa, Eva Mahnke, Linda Schneider, Steffen Lange
This is a summary of the long version of A Societal Transformation Scenario for Staying Below 1.5°C.
The Societal Transfomation Scenario is a global 1.5°C mitigation scenario that challenges the notion of continued global economic growth and its compatibility with ambitious climate targets such as the 1.5°C limit. It shows how we can stay below 1.5°C by reducing production and consumption in the global North without resorting to risky technologies such as CCS, geoengineering and nuclear. There is an increasing urgency to develop global emission reduction scenarios that explore a broader societal transformation - including limiting production and consumption in key high-emitting sectors in the Global North.
The Societal Transformation Scenario was developed in cooperation with Konzeptwerk Neue Ökonomie.
